Basketball Game Preview: Gunnison Cowboys vs. Grand Valley Cardinals

Gunnison hasn't had much luck against Grand Valley recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Gunnison Cowboys will square off against the Grand Valley Cardinals at 5:30 p.m. Gunnison will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak.

Gunnison is headed into the game after thoroughly thrashing Crested Butte: they outscored them in every quarter. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that Gunnison blew Crested Butte out of the water with a 54-17 final score. The match was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 31-10.

Meanwhile, Grand Valley posted their closest victory since December 7, 2024 on Tuesday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 35-33 win over Rifle. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Cardinals.

Gunnison has also been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests, which provided a nice bump to their 9-5 record this season. As for Grand Valley, their victory ended a four-game drought at home and bumped them up to 4-10.

Gunnison was able to grind out a solid win over Grand Valley in their previous meeting back in December of 2024, winning 42-29. The rematch might be a little tougher for Gunnison since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
