Baseball Recap: Blue Ridge Wins Going Away Against Pickens

Blue Ridge got themselves on the board against Pickens on Thursday, but Pickens never followed suit. They blew past the Pickens Blue Flame 6-0. The Fighting Tigers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four contests by six runs or more this season.

Gabe King made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 11 over five innings pitched. King was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with one home run and two RBI. That home run was his first of the season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jackson Weiner, who scored a run while going 3-for-5. Justin Gilpin was another key player, scoring a run while going 1-for-3.

Blue Ridge was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .406. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Pickens only posted a batting average of .083.

Blue Ridge's record now sits at 6-3. As for Pickens, they dropped their record down to 1-6 with the loss, which was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Blue Ridge will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Landrum at 7:30 p.m. on March 24th. As for Pickens, they will head out on the road to take on Walhalla at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Walhalla is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.6 runs per game this season.
