Softball Recap: Cobre Finds Playoff Glory Versus Dexter

With a playoff win on the line, Cobre rose to the challenge on Thursday. They had just enough and edged out the Dexter Demons 2-1. The victory was familiar territory for the Indians, who have now won five games in a row.

Bella Saiz spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on seven hits and racked up 13 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 17 consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Cobre saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ayvah Ortiz, who went 2-for-4 with one run and one double.

Cobre's win bumped their record up to 22-7. As for Dexter, their loss ended a 20-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 25-3.

Dexter didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 10-3 victory against West Las Vegas on the 15th. Hopefully Cobre paid attention to the Demons' match: the next time they hit the field, they'll take on the Demons at 12:00 p.m. on Friday.
