Softball Recap: Athens Comes Up Short

Athens fell victim to Canton and their airtight pitching crew on Tuesday. They came up short against the Canton Eagles, falling 15-0. Having soared to a lofty 16 runs in the game before, the Hornets' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

Athens' defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 9-5. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 17.0 runs over those games. As for Canton, they have been performing well recently as they've won nine of their last 12 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-5-2 record this season.

Athens will face off against Lindale at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Athens has given up an average of 8.3 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week. As for Canton, they will square off against Mabank at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Mabank has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 12 runs per game on average), something Canton will no doubt try to take advantage of.
