Softball Game Preview: Michigan Lutheran Seminary Cardinals vs. Unionville-Sebewaing Patriots

The Michigan Lutheran Seminary Cardinals will challenge the Unionville-Sebewaing Patriots on Friday. Both teams are coming into the contest red-hot, with Michigan Lutheran Seminary sitting on four straight wins and Unionville-Sebewaing on five.

Michigan Lutheran Seminary is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Tuesday. They had just enough and edged out Holton 4-3. That's two games straight that the Cardinals have won by just one run.

Ally Coffey was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she tossed seven innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off six hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, one triple, and one run.

Coffey wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Addison Whitmer, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one run.

Meanwhile, Unionville-Sebewaing's rock-solid pitchers showed up for the team's fifth consecutive shutout on Tuesday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand Plymouth Christian Academy a 2-0 shutout. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Patriots have posted since April 24th.

Unionville-Sebewaing's win bumped their record up to 20-17. As for Michigan Lutheran Seminary, their victory bumped their record up to 33-10.

Michigan Lutheran Seminary suffered a grim 13-0 defeat to Unionville-Sebewaing in their previous meeting back in June of 2019. Can the Cardinals avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
