Softball Recap: Michigan City Comes Up Short

Michigan City extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to 11 on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 0-8 in the process. They lost 13-0 to the Crown Point Bulldogs. Having soared to a lofty 14 runs in the game before, the Wolves' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

As for Crown Point, their win bumped their record up to 10-2. The result was nothing new for the Bulldogs, who have now won seven contests by ten runs or more so far this season.

For Crown Point's part, Michigan City's batters probably weren't too happy with Lexi Smith, who pitched a no hitter and racked up 13 Ks (she gave up zero walks). Smith has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Sam Dunlap and Lulu Johnston did most of the damage at the plate: Dunlap got on base in all three of her plate appearances with one home run, three RBI, and two runs, while Johnston went a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Those three RBI gave Dunlap a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Amaria Yarbrough, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.

Michigan City wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next game, an 18-2 defeat against Portage on the 23rd. As for Crown Point, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next match, a 3-1 victory against La Porte on the 23rd.
