Softball Game Preview: Kankakee Kays vs. Thornwood Thunderbirds

Kankakee is a perfect 9-0 against Thornwood since May of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Kays will look to defend their home field against the Thunderbirds at 4:30 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Having struggled with five losses in a row, Kankakee turned things around against Crete-Monee on Thursday. They were the clear victors by a 13-2 margin over the Warriors. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for the Kays' hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.

Kylie Glogowski made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out 11 over five innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in April of 2024. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Lillian Landis, who scored a run and stole a base while going 3-for-4. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in RBI (three). Another player making a difference was Annika Van Heemst, who scored three runs while going 1-for-3.

Kankakee always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .543. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

While Thornwood didn't have the best season last year (they finished 7-13), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They put the hurt on Thornton with a sharp 24-5 win on Thursday.

The victory was their first on the road , bumping their record up to 3-6. As for Thornwood, their win bumped their record up to 6-2.

Kankakee took their victory against Thornwood when the teams last played back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 15-0 score. Do the Kays have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Thunderbirds turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
