Softball Game Preview: Mount Miguel Matadors vs. Monte Vista Monarchs

The Mount Miguel Matadors will face off against the Monte Vista Monarchs at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Mount Miguel is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.2 runs per game this season.

Mount Miguel took a loss when they played away from home on Friday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Wednesday. They were the clear victors by a 17-7 margin over El Cajon Valley. The high-scoring effort was just what the Matadors needed considering they were shut out in their previous matchup.

Gabriella Sanchez made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She tossed 3.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. Sanchez was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with three stolen bases and three runs.

In other batting news, Laylah Castro was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three runs. A Sinsay was another key player, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI.

Mount Miguel always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .657. They are 4-2 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Meanwhile, Monte Vista was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their 14th straight loss dating back to last season. They came up short against Lincoln, falling 22-8. While the Monarchs didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Hornets 7-2 in the first period.

Monte Vista's defeat dropped their record down to 0-13. As for Mount Miguel, their victory bumped their record up to 4-8.

Mount Miguel took their win against Monte Vista when the teams last played back in April by a conclusive 14-2 score. Do the Matadors have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Monarchs turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
