Softball Recap: Saturday's Defeat Ends Flagstaff's Winning Streak

Flagstaff dropped their record down to 15-7-1 on Saturday, which also ended the team's 11-game streak of wins. They fell just short of the Verrado Vipers by a score of 3-2. The Eagles were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Vipers earlier this season, when they won 7-0.

Flagstaff saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Cailee Culwell, who went 1-for-4 with one home run. Another was Sophia Garcia, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one run.

As for Verrado, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 21-4. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.7 runs on average over those games.

On Verrado's side, not much got past Jill Ryan, who gave up just two hits and racked up 12 Ks to keep Flagstaff off the board. Ryan has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Lily Falk, who went 2-for-3 with two doubles and one run. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high. Jaiden Stell was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one run and one double.

Flagstaff wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next match, a 3-2 defeat against Coconino on the 21st. As for Verrado, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 2-0 win against Santa Cruz Valley on the 19th.
