Softball Recap: Tough Loss for Spalding

Spalding extended their losing streak to seven on Thursday, dropping them down to 7-14. They lost 8-2 to the Troup County Tigers. Having soared to a lofty 14 runs in the game before, the Jaguars couldn't push the score so high this time.

Spalding saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Abigail Smith, who went 1-for-3 while posting 1 home run and 2 RBIs.

As for Troup County, their win was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 17-5. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.3 runs over those games.

On Troup County's side, Kennedy McCoy tossed a big game, striking out 14 batters over 7 innings while giving up 2 earned runs off 4 hits (and only one walk). The 14 batters struck out were her most since at least 2025.

At the plate, Capri Cooper was excellent, going a perfect 4-for-4 while posting 2 doubles, 3 runs, and 1 stolen base. She has been locked in at the plate lately, hitting .476 over her last 10 games vs .263 in her first nine games this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Spalding will face off against Crawford County at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Troup County, they will challenge Peach County at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
