Basketball Recap: Ella Lewis' Big Game Can't Quite Lead King Cove over Sand Point

King Cove had lost two consecutive heartbreakers to Sand Point and they left with a heavy heart again on Thursday. The King Cove T-Jacks and Rookies took a 53-40 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Sand Point Eagles/Lady Eagles. The T-Jacks and Rookies have struggled against the Eagles/Lady Eagles recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive lost matchup.

King Cove lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Ella Lewis, who went 5-for-7 to rack up 10 points and five steals. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in shooting accuracy (71%). Another player making a difference was MaryMae Brandell, who went 5-for-12 on her way to 12 points.

King Cove's defeat dropped their record down to 4-9. As for Sand Point, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 9-1.

While King Cove had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
