Softball Recap: Calallen Continues Home Dominance on Thursday

Calallen waltzed into their matchup on Thursday with five straight wins... but they left with six. They blew past the Pioneer Diamondbacks 10-1. The Wildcats might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five contests by seven runs or more this season.

Bianca Gonzales looked comfortable as she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out six over four innings pitched. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Braelyn Bailey was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. That's the most runs she has posted since back in May of 2024. Kylie Butcher was another key player, scoring a run and stealing three bases while going 1-for-1.

Calallen was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .375. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .312 or higher in six consecutive games.

Calallen pushed their record up to 8-1 with the victory, which was their 15th straight at home dating back to last season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.1 runs over those games. As for Pioneer, their loss dropped their record down to 6-2.

Calallen and Pioneer's offenses will be put to the test in their next games. Calallen will challenge Aubrey at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday, a squad that's only allowed 1.25 runs per game. Calallen's pitching crew has only allowed 2.2 runs per game this season, so Pioneer's hitters will have their work cut out for them. Similarly, Pioneer and Pharr-San Juan-Alamo North (who has only given up 2.56 runs per game) will meet at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Calallen is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.8 runs per game this season.
