Softball Recap: Elko Picks Up Second Consecutive Win

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Elko had no problem doing just that on Friday. They never let the Sparks Railroaders get on the board and left with a 19-0 win. Considering the Indians have won ten matchups by more than ten runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Sofie Naranjo and Taylor Hunton were major factors no matter where they played. On the mound, Naranjo pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Hunton pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. What's more, Naranjo posted two strikeouts, the most she's had since back in March. At the plate, Naranjo earned one RBI, one run, and one stolen base, while Hunton got on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and four RBI.

In other batting news, Elko got a massive performance out of Lauren Carnicle, who went 2-for-3 with three runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. That's the most runs Carnicle has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Adausha Goodson, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI and two runs.

Elko hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They are 8-2 when they post two or more strikeouts.

The victory made it two in a row for Elko and bumps their season record up to 17-13. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 18.5 runs over those games. As for Sparks, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 8-20.

Coming up, Elko will face off against Fernley at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday. The Indians' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Vaqueros have averaged an impressive 9.9 runs per game this season. Sparks does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
