Basketball Game Preview: St. Michael's Warriors vs. Antonian Prep Apaches

The St. Michael's Warriors will challenge the Antonian Prep Apaches at 8:00 p.m. on Friday. St. Michael's knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past 28 games -- so hopefully Antonian Prep likes a good challenge.

St. Michael's is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Saturday. They put the hurt on TMI-Episcopal with a sharp 59-33 win. The Warriors have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 16 matchups by 21 points or more this season.

Meanwhile, Antonian Prep came tearing into Saturday's contest with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 22 points), and they left with even more momentum. They came out on top against the Vikings by a score of 70-59. Given the Apaches' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 35th, while the Vikings are ranked 304th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Antonian Prep's win came from a few key players St. Michael's will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Edison Onwe, who dropped a double-double with 17 points and 15 boards. That's the most rebounds he has posted since back in November of 2024. Another player making a difference was Amare Guerra, who earned 19 points and three steals.

St. Michael's victory was their 12th straight at home, which pushed their record up to 30-4. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 27.3 points. As for Antonian Prep, their win bumped their record up to 34-6.

St. Michael's took their victory against Antonian Prep in their previous matchup back in January by a conclusive 92-71. The rematch might be a little tougher for St. Michael's since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
