Preview: Uxbridge Spartans vs. Clinton Gaels

The Uxbridge Spartans will play host again and welcome the Clinton Gaels, where kickoff is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Uxbridge extended their postseason success on Friday against Tyngsborough. They blew past the Tigers 33-7. Given Uxbridge's advantage in MaxPreps' Massachusetts football rankings (they are ranked 24th, while Tyngsborough is ranked 101st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, you can't lose the matchup if you win every quarter, and that was precisely Clinton's strategy against Rockland on Friday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that Clinton blew Rockland out of the water with a 49-6 final score. With Clinton ahead 28-6 at the half, the game was all but over already.

Clinton's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Axel Ramos, who rushed for 141 yards and two touchdowns on only ten carries. Ramos hasn't dropped below 100 rushing yards for three straight games. Matt Phillips was another key contributor, rushing for 81 yards and two touchdowns on only seven carries.

On the other side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Clinton's defense and their seven sacks. The heavy lifting was done by Connor Cox and Ethan Frisch who racked up five sacks between them.

Uxbridge pushed their record up to 10-0 with that victory, which was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season. They've been dominating during the games in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 29.4 points. As for Clinton, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 6-4.

Uxbridge was able to grind out a solid victory over Clinton when the teams last played back in November of 2018, winning 27-16. Will Uxbridge repeat their success, or does Clinton have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
