It may have taken nine innings to finish the job, but Covington ultimately got the result they hoped for on Wednesday. They won by a run and slipped past the Millington Central Trojans 5-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Chargers have posted since April 20, 2024.

Kinslee Hamm spent all nine innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and two unearned) runs on 11 hits and racked up nine Ks. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one walk in seven consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Covington's victory was truly a team effort as six different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Bella Crook, who went 2-for-5 with two RBI and one double. That's the most RBI Crook has posted since back in April. Micayla Scott also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

Covington is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-12-1 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.5 runs over those games. As for Millington Central, the defeat snapped their winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 18-15-1 record.

As of now, neither Covington nor the Trojans have any future games scheduled.
