Basketball Game Preview: Mt. Shasta Bears vs. Weed Cougars

Mt. Shasta is 1-9 against Weed since February of 2022 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Mt. Shasta Bears will challenge the Weed Cougars at 8:30 p.m. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Mt. Shasta comes in on three and Weed on 14.

Mt. Shasta is headed into the contest after thoroughly thrashing Modoc: they outscored them in every quarter. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that Mt. Shasta blew Modoc out of the water with a 74-43 final score. The Bears have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won nine matches by 22 points or more this season.

Meanwhile, Weed beat Trinity 59-46 on Wednesday. Given the Cougars' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 365th, while the Wolves are ranked 811th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Mt. Shasta pushed their record up to 17-10 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 23.2 points. As for Weed, their win bumped their record up to 20-6.

Mt. Shasta came up short against Weed when the teams last played back in January, falling 55-46. Can Mt. Shasta avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
