Softball Recap: Columbia Crimson Tide vs. Lancaster Catholic Crusaders
Columbia had lost nine straight at home dating back to last season, but on Monday they dropped their record down to 0-12 to make it ten. They came up short against the Lancaster Catholic Crusaders, falling 23-0. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Crusaders this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 18-1 back in April.
As for Lancaster Catholic, they are on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 11 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-3 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.6 runs over those games.
For Lancaster Catholic's part, Kailee Detz made a splash no matter where she played. She struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). Detz was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with four RBI and two doubles. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Gabby Bigler, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with four runs, two stolen bases, and four RBI. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played. Caitlyn McCoach also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.
Looking ahead, Columbia will venture away from home to face off against Lebanon at 4:15 p.m. on Thursday. As for Lancaster Catholic, they will welcome Trinity at 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday.
