Softball Game Preview: Cox Mill Chargers vs. Lake Norman Wildcats

Cox Mill hasn't had much luck against Lake Norman recently, but that could start to change on Friday. Cox Mill will face off against Lake Norman at 6:00 p.m. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.

Cox Mill is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They put the hurt on Christ the King with a sharp 17-10 victory on Thursday. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Chargers considering their one-run performance the match before.

Myla Koonce was a standout: she scored three runs while going 2-for-4. Brinley Robinson was another key player, scoring three runs while going 2-for-3.

Cox Mill always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .556. The last time their OBP was this high was back in April of 2024.

Meanwhile, Lake Norman got the win against East Lincoln on Wednesday by a conclusive 11-2. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Wildcats.

Vivian Billard made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She tossed seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off six hits. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-5 with one home run, five RBI, and one double. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Lake Norman got a massive performance out of Avery Evans, who scored four runs while going 3-for-5. What's more, Evans posted two doubles, the most she's had since back in March of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaylee Harris, who scored a run while going 4-for-5.

Cox Mill's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-9. As for Lake Norman, their victory bumped their record up to 5-6.

Cox Mill suffered a grim 10-1 defeat to Lake Norman in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can Cox Mill avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
