Preview: Stafford Trojans vs. Reno County HomeSchool Sabres
The Stafford Trojans will be staying on the road on Monday to face off against the Reno County HomeSchool Sabres at 6:00 p.m. on January 22nd. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.
Last Tuesday, Stafford lost to Fairfield on the road by a decisive 51-33 margin. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Stafford in their matchups with Fairfield: they've now lost seven in a row.
Despite their loss, Stafford saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Ines Garcia, who scored seven points along with five rebounds, was perhaps the best of all. Another player making a difference was Taylor Denio, who scored 16 points along with four steals.
Meanwhile, Reno County HomeSchool's recent rough patch got a bit rougher last Thursday after their seventh straight loss. They had to suffer through a rough 46-15 loss at the hands of Wichita Defenders HomeSchool. While losing is never fun, Reno County HomeSchool can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Kansas basketball rankings (they are ranked 278th, while Wichita Defenders HomeSchool is ranked 135th).
Stafford bumped their record down to 2-7 with that defeat, which was their 16th straight on the road. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 22.3 points per game. As for Reno County HomeSchool, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-10.
Stafford was dealt a bruising 51-20 defeat at the hands of Reno County HomeSchool when the teams last played back in January of 2023. The matchup was all but decided by halftime, at which point Stafford was down 32-8.
