Softball Recap: Benton Comes Up Short

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Benton can now relate to. They fell just short of the Carmi-White County Bulldogs by a score of 4-3 on Monday. The defeat continues a trend for the Rangers in their meetings with the Bulldogs: they've now lost six in a row.

Benton saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Makayla Shelton (2026), who went a perfect 1-for-1 with two runs and one double.

Benton's loss dropped their record down to 8-19. As for Carmi-White County, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 10-19.

Benton does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Carmi-White County, they will host Mt. Carmel at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Aces' pitching crew has only allowed 2.1 runs per game this season, so the Bulldogs' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
