Softball Game Preview: Southeastern Panthers vs. Portsmouth Trojans

The Southeastern Panthers will take on the Portsmouth Trojans in a tournament on Tuesday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.

It was a proper cat-fight when Southeastern took on Paint Valley on Friday. The Panthers were the clear victors by an 8-2 margin over the Bearcats. The Panthers haven't had any issues with the Bearcats recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.

Kylie Williams spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on seven hits and racked up 13 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Southeastern let Jade Turner and Gracie Brown run wild. Turner went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI, while Brown went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one double. That's the most stolen bases Brown has posted since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Ally Fisher, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and two runs.

Meanwhile, Portsmouth had to endure a three-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They blew past Fairland 8-2 on Friday. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest win the Trojans have posted against the Dragons since April 30, 2021.

Portsmouth's victory bumped their record up to 9-14. As for Southeastern, their win bumped their record up to 10-14.
