Baseball Recap: Skaneateles Wins Going Away Against Marcellus

Skaneateles lost to Marcellus two weeks ago, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Thursday. The Lakers blew past the Mustangs 7-1. The Lakers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five matches by six runs or more this season.

Declan Pfau spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on one hit and racked up nine Ks. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Skaneateles is 3-1 when he allows at most two earned runs, but 4-5 otherwise.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Hugh Carroll, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with four runs, two triples, and three RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Skaneateles' success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 4-6 when he doesn't).

Skaneateles hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Marcellus struck out nine times.

Skaneateles is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-6 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.0 runs over those games. As for Marcellus, their defeat was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 2-11.

Coincidentally, Skaneateles and Marcellus will both be playing Homer the next time they take the field. The Mustangs will head out to face the Trojans at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, while the Lakers will host them at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
