Recap: McClintock Chargers vs. Paradise Honors Panthers

If the McClintock Chargers were riding high off their 76-8 takedown of the Marcos de Niza Padres last Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. McClintock took a hard 51-34 fall against Paradise Honors on Wednesday. While losing is never fun, McClintock can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 101st, while Paradise Honors is ranked 24th).

Despite the loss, McClintock saw an underclassman step up: Lamaiya Woodberry scored 20 points. The matchup was Woodberry's third in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Iakira Mike, who scored 5 points.

Paradise Honors was led to victory by Star Nwabichie and Morgan Van Dyke. Nwabichie scored 16 points, while Van Dyke scored 17 points. That makes it two consecutive games in which Van Dyke has scored at least 25% of Paradise Honors' points. Jaelyn Perez was another key contributor, scoring 6 points.

McClintock's loss dropped their record down to 2-1. As for Paradise Honors, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 6-2.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. McClintock will take on Central at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Central focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 34 on Thursday. As for Paradise Honors, they will head out on the road to face off against Liberty at 7:00 p.m. on Monday.
