Baseball Recap: Macon County Wins Going Away Against Clay County

Macon County won the last time they faced Clay County and things went their way on Thursday too. The Tigers were the clear victors by a 14-4 margin over the Bulldogs. The result was nothing new for the Tigers, who have now won 13 matches by six runs or more so far this season.

Braylon Flowers spent all five innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered four earned runs on five hits and racked up seven Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one walk in nine consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Macon County let Matthew Wheeley and Hayes Polston run wild. Wheeley went a perfect 1-for-1 with one home run and four RBI, while Polston went 2-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Those four RBI gave Wheeley a new career-high. Jay Wilson was another key player, going 1-for-3 with three RBI and one triple.

Macon County's win bumped their record up to 18-12. As for Clay County, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-13 record this season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Macon County will face off against Trousdale County at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. The Tigers are facing the Yellowjackets at the right time seeing as the Yellowjackets are stuck on an eight-game losing streak. As for Clay County, they will challenge Jackson County at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. The Blue Devils have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 9.23 runs per game on average), something the Bulldogs will no doubt try to take advantage of.
