Baseball Game Preview: Woodlawn Cardinals vs. Elverado Falcons

Woodlawn is on a four-game streak of home losses, and Elverado a three-game streak of away losses. However, someone's due for a change in luck on Thursday. The Woodlawn Cardinals will be playing at home against the Elverado Falcons at 4:30 p.m. Elverado took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on Woodlawn, who comes in off a win.

Woodlawn's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Wednesday. Everything went their way against Lebanon as they made off with a 9-0 win.

JW Morgan was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out six over 4.1 innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Woodlawn is 2-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 2-10 otherwise. Morgan was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with three stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Gianni Cheatam, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and one RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Woodlawn's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 1-11 when he doesn't).

Elverado couldn't beat Cobden on Wednesday even though they stacked four runs on them in the fourth inning. The Falcons fell 12-8 to the Appleknockers.

Elverado's loss dropped their record down to 3-16. As for Woodlawn, their victory bumped their record up to 4-11.
