Volleyball Recap: Wonderful College Prep Academy Takes a Loss

If Wonderful College Prep Academy was feeling good fresh off their 3-0 takedown of Del Oro on Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Lions fell just short of the Firebaugh Eagles by a score of 3-2 on Thursday. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Eagles this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 2-0 back in August.

Wonderful College Prep Academy started the match hot and won the first two sets, but they struggled down the stretch and lost the last three. The match finished with set scores of 11-25, 23-25, 25-22, 25-20, 15-13.

Their offense was headlined by Daniela Flores and Marlyn Almazan, who picked up five kills apiece. They got some help from Estefanny Martinez and her 12 assists. Genesis Ortez controlled things from the service line, finishing with five aces.

Wonderful College Prep Academy has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost eight of their last nine games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-9 record this season. As for Firebaugh, with the win, they broke their five-game losing streak and moved their record to 3-11.

Looking ahead, Wonderful College Prep Academy will host Coast Union at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Firebaugh, they are taking a road trip to challenge Kings Christian at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
