Baseball Recap: Saugus' Run of Three Straight Victories Now Over

After flying high against North Hollywood last Tuesday, Saugus came back down to earth. The Saugus Centurions fell 8-3 to the Oaks Christian Lions on Saturday. The Centurions were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Lions apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in April of 2022.

Saugus saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Abraham Ramirez, who went 3-for-4 with one RBI. James Frias also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Saugus moved to 6-2 with that loss, which also ended their three-game winning streak. A key ingredient in that success has been their performance when it comes to strikeouts: they averaged an imposing 6.67 strikeouts in those games compared to only 3.2 in the others. As for Oaks Christian, their win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 5-2.

Saugus and Oaks Christian should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps California Rankings. Saugus will square off against Canyon at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday up 353 places (78 vs. 431). The two teams have allowed few runs on average, (Saugus 3.9, Oaks Christian 3.1) so any runs scored will be well earned. Meanwhile, Oaks Christian (ranked 120th) will meet Moorpark (ranked 283rd) at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Saugus is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.7 runs per game this season.
