Baseball Game Preview: Hidalgo Pirates vs. Rio Hondo Bobcats

The Hidalgo Pirates will face off against the Rio Hondo Bobcats at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Hidalgo 3.1, Rio Hondo 3.2) so any runs scored will be well earned.

Rio Hondo will be up against a hot Hidalgo squad: the team just extended their winning streak to four. Everything went Hidalgo's way against Valley View on Friday as Hidalgo made off with a 9-1 win.

Raul Prishker was a major factor no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run while striking out nine over 6.1 innings pitched. What's more, he gave up only four walks, the fewest he's had since back in May of 2024. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with three RBI. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Jose Gonzalez was excellent, scoring three runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Jesus Garcia, who went 1-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Rio Hondo has relied on a stalwart pitchers averaging 3.22 runs allowed per game, but that average took a hit on Friday. They came up short against Lyford, falling 11-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Bobcats have suffered since May 10, 2024.

Hidalgo's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-5-1. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.7 runs on average over those games. As for Rio Hondo, their loss ended a ten-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 12-6.

Hidalgo took their victory against Rio Hondo in their previous matchup back in April of 2022 by a conclusive 10-1. Will Hidalgo repeat their success, or does Rio Hondo has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
