Football Recap: Providence Academy Comes Up Short Despite Ford Bowman's Big Defensive Game

After flying high against West Greene two weeks ago, Providence Academy came back down to earth. Providence Academy took a 28-21 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Middle Tennessee Christian Cougars on Friday. While losing is never fun, Providence Academy can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Tennessee football rankings (they are ranked 338th, while Middle Tennessee Christian is ranked 153rd).

Even if they lost, Providence Academy's defense still kept up the pressure with five sacks. In that department, Ford Bowman was the leader with two. Bowman is also crushing it when it comes to total tackles: he's made at least eight every time he's taken the field this season.

Middle Tennessee Christian found their leader in sophomore Alie Bangura, who rushed for 211 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 12.4 yards per carry. Those 211 rushing yards set a new season-high mark for Bangura. Malachi White was another key player, picking up 90 receiving yards and one score.

Providence Academy now has a losing record of 2-3. As for Middle Tennessee Christian, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 4-1.

Looking ahead, Providence Academy will challenge Concord Christian at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Providence Academy will be up against the Lions' rather soft defense (which has allowed 26.6 points per matchup), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for Middle Tennessee Christian, they are taking a road trip to square off against Clay County at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
