Basketball Game Preview: LaBelle Cowboys/Cowgirls vs. Canterbury Cougars

The LaBelle Cowboys/Cowgirls will take on the Canterbury Cougars at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Both teams are coming into the game red-hot, with LaBelle sitting on four straight wins and Canterbury on three.

LaBelle will bounce into Monday's match after beating Lemon Bay, who they had gone 1-6 against in their seven prior meetings. In a tight contest that could have gone either way, LaBelle made off with a 43-42 victory over Lemon Bay.

LaBelle's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jerrahd Williams, who posted ten points along with five assists and five steals. Williams is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed four or more in the last six games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Arrie Davis Jr., who went 5 of 8 en route to 13 points.

Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Canterbury challenged Bradenton Christian on Thursday. Canterbury managed a 57-51 victory over Bradenton Christian. The win was all the more spectacular given the Cougars' disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 712th, while the Panthers are ranked 320th).

LaBelle has been performing well recently as they've won eight of their last ten games, which provided a nice bump to their 12-4 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 62.1 points per game. As for Canterbury, their victory bumped their record up to 5-11.

Things could have been worse for LaBelle, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 64-46 loss to Canterbury in their previous meeting back in January of 2017. Thankfully for LaBelle, Thomas Pritchard (who went 7 of 9 on his way to 18 points and three steals) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
