MaxPreps Northern California Top 25 high school football rankings

De La Salle holds strong at the top, Mitty moves up and Campolindo enters this week's rankings.



The upset of the week was upstart Campolindo (Moraga) beating previous No. 8 El Cerrito 42-27, and Campolindo jumps into these rankings ready for more.

Mitty (San Jose) crushed previous No. 4 Palo Alto 34-14 and thus made a big climb.

De La Salle remains firm at No. 1 as it has since 1991 in any NorCal rankings, when it last lost to a NorCal foe.

John Velasco and Antoine Custer fueled an offense that piled up 505 yards, 445 rushing, in beating a strong Del Oro (Loomis) team 41-3 for the Spartans' 30th consecutive victory and 60th in 61 outings. All told, this marks De La Salle's 241st victory against Northern California teams with no losses and two ties since 1991.

2. (2) Folsom 4-0
The Bulldogs beat talented host San Ramon Valley (Danville) 67-36 behind more strong line play (no sacks allowed) and Jake Browning, who passed for 596 yards and eight touchdowns. The yardage is the third most in a single game, behind Browning's 689 yards that he dropped on Woodcreek (Roseville) in his varsity debut a year ago as a sophomore and the 601 that Folsom's Tanner Trosin delivered to Deer Valley (Antioch) in 2011. Will McClure, Bailey Laolagi and Josiah Deguara each caught two touchdown passes against SRV.

3. (3) Bellarmine (San Jose) 3-0
The Bells beat Piedmont Hills (San Jose) 41-21. Earlier wins are 28-25 over El Cerrito and San Leandro 31-21. Next is the West Catholic Athletic League.

4. (5) Elk Grove 4-0
The Thundering Herd set a single-season school record with 625 rushing yards to beat 2-1 Sheldon (Sacramento) 55-0. Sheldon went in averaging 52 points per game. Leading rusher Wadus Parker had seven carries for 82 yards, and reserves Eltoro Allen, Julius Fullah and Manny Scott-Anderson combined for 365 rushing yards and four scores. Sheldon was held to 12 yards rushing on 30 carries as Noah Letuligasenoa Ta'amu had three of his team's eight sacks.

5. (6) Serra (San Mateo) 2-1
After a bye week, the Padres belted Encinal (Alameda) 49-13. The bye came after a crushing 21-14 loss to De La Salle. Serra had a school-record 626 yards of offense behind the versatile efforts of Kelepi Lataimua and Kava Cassidy.

6. (7) Pleasant Grove (Elk Grove) 4-0
Deaundre Terrell hit Wyatt Demps and Esley Simmons for touchdown passes, rushed for 71 yards and a score, and Damaree Morris rushed for 128 yards and a score to beat previous No. 10 Inderkum (Sacramento). Brandon Lewis rushed for 96 yards and a score.

7. (9) Oak Ridge (El Dorado Hills) 4-0
Ian Book passed for 282 yards and two touchdowns and the Trojans pounded out the needed yards on the ground to run out the clock to beat previous No. 5 Grant (Sacramento) 20-17. Thomas Mahlman had 14 tackles and James Portilla 12 for Oak Ridge.

8. (10) Granite Bay 2-1
Tony Ellison rushed for four touchdowns for the second consecutive game as a Flyback blur in beating previous No. 8 Vacaville 46-28. He had 168 yards rushing, and Josh Neal had 193 yards passing and a touchdown.

9. (12) Marin Catholic (Kentfield) 3-0
The Wildcats blitzed Tamalpais (Mill Valley) 56-7.

10. (15) St. Mary's (Stockton) 2-1
The Rams were idle. The last outing was a 40-13 setback to national power De La Salle (Concord).

11. (18) Archbishop Mitty (San Jose) 3-0

The Monarchs rolled previous No. 4 Palo Alto 34-14 behind backup QB Brett Foley, who rushed for 142 yards and scored on a 60-yard run on his first play. Foley is a 6-3, 218-pound junior. Next is the West Catholic Athletic League that includes Bellarmine, Serra and Valley Christian, all ranked.

12. (NR) Campolindo (Moraga) 4-0
The Cougars of the Diablo Foothill League beat previous No. 8 El Cerrito 42-27 by out-gaining EC 453-194. Andrew Zolintakis passed for 306 yards and three touchdowns despite competing with a stress fracture in his arm. Earlier wins include Heritage (Brentwood) 40-26, Menlo-Atherton (Atherton) 38-21 and Washington (Fremont) 28-14.

13. (12) Del Oro (Loomis) 1-2
The Golden Eagles lost to national power De La Salle 41-3 in finding out in person how dominant the Spartans can be.

14. (13) Grant (Sacramento) 3-1
The Pacers lost to No. 7 Oak Ridge after leading 10-0 behind a punishing running game, including 86 yards from TieNeal Martin. The Pacers allowed just 43 yards rushing.
Next: No. 13 Del Oro (Loomis), Friday

15. (4) Palo Alto 1-1
The Vikings were crushed by Mitty (San Jose) despite two touchdown passes by Keller Chryst, but the running game was not much of a factor.

16. (16) Clayton Valley Charter (Concord) 2-1
The Eagles beat Independence (San Jose) 42-7 behind leaders Ben Davis, Miles Harrison and Zack Dominguez.
Next: Skyline (Oakland), Friday

17. (17) Pittsburg 3-1
The Pirates beat Berkeley 24-0 as Harris Ross continued his hot rushing season with 191 yards and a score. He had an East Bay record 464 yards last week against Monte Vista (Danville) and has since committed to Hawaii.
Next: No. 8 Granite Bay, Friday

18. (22) Deer Valley (Antioch) 4-0
Nsimba Webster passed for two touchdowns and he rushed for 143 and three scores in a 50-16 rout of 2-0 Santa Rosa.

19. (8) El Cerrito 2-2
The small-school Gauchos fell to upstart Campolindo (Moraga) 42-27. The other loss was to Bellarmine (San Jose) 28-25.

20. (19) Foothill (Pleasanton) 4-0
The Falcons rolled Vintage (Napa) 52-6.

21. (20) California (San Ramon) 2-1

The Grizzlies were idle after beating Castro Valley 48-31 as Blake Bierwith rushed for 208 yards and five touchdowns and QB Cameron Owen accounted for two scores.

22. (14) Vacaville 2-1

The Bulldogs lost to No 5 Granite Bay 46-28, though they rushed for 249 yards on 62 carries. Damonte Moore, one of six backs to carry the ball, had 96 yards and a score.

23. (21) Valley Christian (San Jose) 1-1
The Warriors were idle after rolling Bishop O'Dowd (Oakland) 38-10 as Kirk Johnson and Mark Quinby rushed for a total of 334 yards and three touchdowns. The loss was a late one to Vacaville.

24. (23) Burbank (Sacramento) 1-2
The Titans were idle after losing to Grant (Sacramento) 28-14. Burbank is expected to roll to another Metropolitan Conference title.

(TIE) 25. (24) Logan (Union City) 3-1
Logan beat Heritage (Brentwood) 21-7, holding a 174-10 advantage in yardage at the half and six first-half sacks. The loss was a season opener at Del Oro (Loomis).

(TIE) 25. (25) Pitman (Turlock) 4-0
The Pride rolled Oakland Tech 62-20 on homecoming night in rolling up 350 yards by the half behind runners Logan Wolfley, Drew Lewis and Mario Lewis.

(TIE) 25. (25) Central Catholic (Modesto) 3-1
The Raiders rolled Modesto 38-0 behind another big effort from Matt Ringer, who rushed for 156 yards and 2 touchdowns. Central Catholic had six sacks and three interceptions.
