Baseball Recap: Quartz Hill Sets Scoring Season-High Against Eastside

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Quartz Hill). They were the clear victors by a 16-2 margin over the Eastside Lions on Wednesday. The Royals haven't had any issues with the Lions recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive win against them.

Christopher Lozano looked comfortable as he struck out six batters over four innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits (and not a single walk). He also tossed no walks, which is notable because Quartz Hill is undefeated when he allows at most one walk, but 5-10 otherwise.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Cole Gregory, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. Ryder Perry was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-2.

Quartz Hill was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .538. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Quartz Hill's victory was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-10. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.3 runs over those games. As for Eastside, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost eight of their last ten matchups. That's still a better percentage than their 3-14-1 record this season.

Quartz Hill will have a chance to go back-to-back against Eastside: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 3:15 p.m. on Friday.
