Basketball Recap: Virginia City Takes a Loss

After flying high against Mineral County on Friday, Virginia City came back down to earth. The Virginia City Muckers took a blow against the Smith Valley Bulldogs on Saturday, falling 58-27. The Muckers were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Bulldogs earlier this season, when they won 44-43.

Virginia City's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Kaiya Krum, who posted 13 points in addition to seven steals and five boards, and Scarlett Fava, who earned three points. That was a full 48.1% of Virginia City's points, marking the fourth time in a row she's had more than a third of the team's points.

Smith Valley found their leader in freshman Dakota Gray, who scored 16 points. The dominant performance gave Gray a new career-high in points. Another player making a difference was Teagan York, who put up ten points.

Virginia City has traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five contests, which has put a noticeable dent in their 15-9 record this season. As for Smith Valley, the victory was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 13-6.

Virginia City has already played their next match, a 48-32 defeat against Coleville on the 7th. As for Smith Valley, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 50-15 win against Sierra Sage Academy/Right Of Passage on the 5th.
