Softball Recap: West Johnston's Luck Takes a Turn for the Worse on Thursday

West Johnston dropped their record down to 13-8 on Thursday, which also ended the team's eight-game streak of wins. They fell just short of the South Johnston Trojans by a score of 5-4. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Trojans this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 7-1 back in April.

Faith Chapman spent all 12.2 innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and two unearned) runs on 13 hits.

At the plate, Laney Pearce was cooking despite her team's loss, going 5-for-7 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. Reagan Sutton was another key player, getting three hits from her six at bats.

As for South Johnston, they pushed their record up to 19-1 with the win, which was their 11th straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games.

On South Johnston's side, the team relied heavily on Loryn Riddick, who went 4-for-6 with two doubles, one triple, and one run. The team also got some help courtesy of Reese Penny, who went 2-for-6 with one run and one double.

As of now, neither West Johnston nor South Johnston have any future games scheduled.
