Basketball Recap: Jovanni Fernandez and Carlos Acuna Secure Win for St. Augustine Catholic + How To Watch

While St. Augustine Catholic didn't have the best season last year (they finished 7-17), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They put the hurt on the Andrada Polytechnic Mavericks with a sharp 75-53 victory on Monday. The win continues a trend for the Wolves in their matchups with the Mavericks: they've now won three in a row.

Leading St. Augustine Catholic to victory were Carlos Acuna and Jovanni Fernandez. Acuna went 10-for-18 on his way to 25 points, while Fernandez almost dropped a double-double with 15 points and nine boards. Acuna's evening made it nine games in a row in which he has scored at least 18 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Owen Ernle, who shot 60% from the field en route to 12 points and six rebounds.

Several Mavericks players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Chasen Lewellyn, who went 5-for-8 to rack up 12 points and seven boards. Lewellyn has been hot recently, having also posted two or more blocks the last three times he's played. Another player making a difference was Jonathan Angal, who shot 71% from the field on his way to 13 points.

St. Augustine Catholic's victory bumped their record up to 6-2. As for Andrada Polytechnic, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-8.

Looking ahead, St. Augustine Catholic will welcome Lincoln Prep at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Andrada Polytechnic, they will head out on the road to square off against Tombstone at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Mavericks will be up against the Yellow Jackets' rather soft defense (which has allowed 62.8 points per matchup), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
