Recap: Donna North Chiefs vs. Veterans Memorial Chargers
Sadly, the Donna North Chiefs are still looking for their first win of the season after 29 games. They were dealt a 79-19 loss at the hands of Veterans Memorial on Friday. Donna North was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 39-16.
Veterans Memorial was led to victory by Tatiana Mercado and Daniela Sauceda. Mercado scored 20 points along with eight steals, while Sauceda dropped a double-double on 27 points and 11 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Sauceda has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Mia Duarte, who scored 12 points along with six rebounds.
Donna North dropped their record down to 0-29 with that defeat, which was their 17th straight at home dating back to last season. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 19.2 points per game. As for Veterans Memorial, the victory (which was their 14th in a row) raised their record to 30-5.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Donna North will take on Porter at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Donna North comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 19 points in their last three games, a trend the squad is of course eager to reverse. As for Veterans Memorial, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Mercedes at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Veterans Memorial's defense has only allowed 30 points per game this season, so Mercedes' offense will have their work cut out for them.
