While Gaston Day's victory against Carmel Christian wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Spartans sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-2 win over the Cougars on Friday. The victory continues a trend for the Spartans in their matchups with the Cougars: they've now won four in a row.

It was an exciting match in which no team won back-to-back sets, but at the end of the day Gaston Day got the one that really mattered. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-16, 22-25, 25-19, 21-25, 15-1.

Gaston Day's win bumped their record up to 4-0. As for Carmel Christian, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-3.

Gaston Day didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 3-0 victory against Hickory Grove Christian on the 26th. As for Carmel Christian, they will have a little extra prep time after the loss as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Charlotte Country Day School at 5:00 p.m. on September 3.
