Notre Dame is 0-9 against Pen Argyl since April of 2015 but things could change on Thursday. The Spartans are taking a road trip to take on the Green Knights at 4:00 p.m. Pen Argyl took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Notre Dame, who comes in off a win.
Notre Dame will roll into the match after a wild two-game stretch: they didn't score any runs on Wednesday, then bounced right back against Lincoln Leadership Academy on Tuesday. The Spartans' pitcher stepped up to hand the Lions a 12-0 shutout. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for the Spartans' hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.

Aidan Acosta was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 13 over five innings pitched. Those 13 strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Those RBI were his first of the season.
In other batting news, Daniel Bordas was a standout: he got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. He has become a key player for Notre Dame: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 0-6 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Lucas Vega, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs and two RBI.
Meanwhile, Pen Argyl didn't have quite enough to beat Wilson Area on Tuesday and fell 4-3.
Pen Argyl saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Cayden Vishnesky, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two doubles, and one RBI.
Notre Dame's win ended an 11-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 2-7. As for Pen Argyl, they dropped their record down to 6-6-1 with the loss, which was their third straight on the road.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Thursday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Notre Dame has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.1 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Pen Argyl struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7.7 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Notre Dame might still be hurting after the 11-0 defeat they got from Pen Argyl in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can the Spartans avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
