Baseball Recap: Marionville Triumphs

Marionville owes their pitching crew a big pat on the back after their performance on Thursday. They came out on top against the Pierce City Eagles by a score of 5-0. The win continues a trend for the Comets in their matchups with the Eagles: they've now won seven in a row.

Not much got past Garrison Smith, who gave up just two hits and racked up nine Ks to keep Pierce City off the board. Smith has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Marionville let Ty Trenary and Bryer Guerin run wild. Trenary went 3-for-4 with two RBI and one run, while Guerin went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs. Those three hits gave Trenary a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Turner McGowan, who went 1-for-3 with one triple and one RBI.

Marionville's victory bumped their record up to 3-8. As for Pierce City, they have been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-5 record this season.

Marionville is taking a road trip to square off against Galena at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Pierce City, they will take on Miller at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
