Baseball Recap: Marianna Find Success

It may have taken nine innings to finish the job, but Marianna ultimately got the result they hoped for on Tuesday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 4-3 victory over the Blountstown Tigers. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 6-2 back in February.

Cooper Castleberry looked comfortable as he pitched four innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. He also tossed no walks, which is notable because Marianna is 2-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 6-8 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Jordan Broxton was excellent, going 1-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. Marianna is undefeated when Broxton posts two or more runs, but 4-9 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Cody Byrd, who went 1-for-4 with one stolen base and one run.

Marianna's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-9. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.7 runs on average over those games. As for Blountstown, they moved to 9-6 with that defeat, which also ended their three-game winning streak.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Marianna will take on Cottondale at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The Bulldogs' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Hornets have averaged an impressive 6.2 runs per game this season. As for Blountstown, they will face off against Vernon at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Tigers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Yellowjackets have averaged an impressive 9.9 runs per game this season.
