Baseball Recap: Chittenango Has No Trouble Against Fulton

Chittenango not only won on Monday, but they posted their biggest win since April 17th (when they won 12-5). They put the hurt on the Fulton Red Raiders with a sharp 11-5 win. The victory continues a trend for the Bears in their matchups with the Red Raiders: they've now won four in a row.

Cooper Smith made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Smith was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. Those two RBI gave him a new career-high.

In other pitching news, Alex Pappas looked comfortable as he tossed four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.

Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Andrew Valente, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with three stolen bases and three runs. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Mason Corlis, who got on base in three of his five plate appearances with one home run.

Chittenango always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .575. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

The win was their first at home , bumping their record up to 5-6. As for Fulton, they are on a ten-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-9.

Chittenango and Fulton could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps New York Rankings. The Bears will take on Solvay at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday with a big rank disadvantage (457 vs. 111). Meanwhile, Fulton (ranked 632nd) will meet West Genesee (ranked 18th) at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
