Basketball Recap: Luling Eagles vs. Cole Cougars

The Luling Eagles struggled with assists on Tuesday (the Cole Cougars had nine more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Luling had to suffer through a rough 71-21 loss at the hands of the Cougars. Luling has not had much luck with the Cougars recently, as the team's come up short the last seven times they've met.

Skylar Dredla and Makyla Houston certainly did their best on Tuesday to avoid the loss. Dredla scored eight points along with two steals, while Houston scored no points.

Cole's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Kamyra Childs led the charge by dropping a double-double on 14 points and ten assists. Childs is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last eight games she's played. Another player making a difference was Abigail Levings, who scored 13 points along with three steals.

Luling has not been sharp recently as the team's lost five of their last six contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-19 record this season. As for Cole, the victory (which was their ninth in a row) raised their record to 27-8.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Luling will take on the Ro-Hawks at 6:15 p.m. on Friday. Randolph is coming into the contest hot, having won their last three games. As for Cole, they will be playing in front of their home fans against the Mustangs at 6:15 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Nixon-Smiley focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 38 last Friday.
