Basketball Recap: Dynamic Duo of Charlee Slaughter and Courtney Griffith Lead Southern Guilford to Victory

Southern Guilford won the last time they faced Atkins and things went their way on Friday too. The Southern Guilford Storm came out on top against the Atkins Camels by a score of 53-45. The Storm didn't have much to brag about two games back, but this win makes it their second in a row.

Southern Guilford was led to victory by Courtney Griffith and Charlee Slaughter. Griffith went 6 for 12 en route to 19 points along with six boards and four steals, while Slaughter posted 12 points and four steals. Slaughter has been hot for a while, having posted three or more steals the last nine times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Asharia Carstle, who scored two points in addition to seven rebounds and four steals.

When it comes to explaining why Atkins lost, don't look at Amanda Worrell. Despite the final result, she earned 15 points along with five boards and four steals. Lauren Shen was another key player, putting up seven points.

Southern Guilford has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a nice bump to their 6-14 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 52.0 points per game. As for Atkins, they have been struggling recently as they've lost eight of their last nine games, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-15 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Southern Guilford will square off against Ben L. Smith at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Atkins, they will take on Eastern Guilford at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
