Recap: Ardrey Kell Knights vs. Gaston Day Spartans
The Ardrey Kell Knights pushed their score all the way to 69 on Saturday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a 73-69 hit to the loss column at the hands of Gaston Day. Despite running the score up even higher than they did on Tuesday (57), Ardrey Kell still had to take the loss.
Despite the loss, Ardrey Kell had strong showings from Caden Caskey, who scored 28 points, and Delani Hammonds, who scored 17 points along with 7 assists and 6 rebounds. The game was Caskey's third in a row with at least ten points. Bryceton Thomas was another key contributor, scoring 10 points along with 7 rebounds.
Gaston Day got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Deshawn Coulter out in front who scored 19 points along with 5 assists and 5 rebounds. Another player making a difference was Griffen Simpson, who scored 19 points along with 6 rebounds.
This is the second loss in a row for Ardrey Kell and nudges their season record down to 1-2. As for Gaston Day, their victory bumped their record up to 6-3.
Ardrey Kell will be playing in front of their home fans against Charlotte Catholic at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Charlotte Catholic focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 13 on Saturday. Gaston Day's road trip will continue as they head out to face Westminster Catawba Christian at 7:00 p.m. on November 28th. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in their respective states (Westminster Catawba Christian is ranked 44th in South Carolina, while Gaston Day is ranked 68th in North Carolina).
