Basketball Recap: Sparta Continues Home Dominance on Wednesday

Sparta lost to Red Bud back in February of 2024, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Wednesday. The Sparta Bulldogs strolled past the Red Bud Musketeers with points to spare, taking the game 62-47. Given the Bulldogs' advantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 158th, while the Musketeers are ranked 516th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Sparta to victory, but perhaps none more so than Dariontez Monroe, who went 12 of 13 en route to 27 points along with six assists and five rebounds. Monroe's evening made it four games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Jake Wesbecher was another key player, dropping a double-double on 17 points and 16 boards.

Sparta pushed their record up to 10-4 with the victory, which was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season. As for Red Bud, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-11.

Sparta wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 52-46 win against Gibault Catholic on the 16th. As for Red Bud, they will be taking part in a tournament against Pinckneyville at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
