Basketball Game Preview: Screven County Gamecocks vs. Portal Panthers

Screven County is 1-9 against Portal since December of 2020 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Gamecocks will welcome the Panthers at 7:30 p.m. Both teams are coming into the contest red-hot, with Screven County sitting on three straight wins and Portal on five.

Screven County is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They walked away with a 70-61 victory over Islands on Tuesday.

LeVez Roper was his usual excellent self, putting up 37 points. His evening made it eight games in a row in which he has scored at least 15 points. Another player making a difference was Rodney Beckwith, who posted 18 points.

While Portal didn't have the best season last year (they finished 12-15), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They breezed past Swainsboro to the tune of 82-48 on Saturday. That looming 82-48 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Panthers yet this season.

Screven County's win bumped their record up to 3-1. As for Portal, their victory bumped their record up to 5-0.

Screven County was able to grind out a solid win over Portal when the teams last played back in January, winning 53-42. Will the Gamecocks repeat their success, or do the Panthers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
