Baseball Game Preview: Golden Sierra Grizzlies vs. Gustine Reds

The Golden Sierra Grizzlies are taking a road trip to square off against the Gustine Reds at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Golden Sierra took a loss when they played away from home on Tuesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Thursday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 6-4 win over Vacaville Christian. The victory was some much needed relief for the Grizzlies as it spelled an end to their four-game losing streak.

Ethan Caruthers made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over 6.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits. Caruthers was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with four RBI, one stolen base, and one run. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high.

Meanwhile, Gustine had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8.3 runs) and they went ahead and made it five on Thursday. They put the hurt on the Knights with a sharp 10-0 win. The Reds' pitching crew has been rock solid lately; the team hasn't given up a run in their last three contests.

Michael Salsa was a standout: he went a perfect 2-for-2 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run. That triple marked the first that he has hit this season. Mike Saaranzin was another key player, getting on base in two of his three plate appearances with three stolen bases and two runs.

Gustine always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .571. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Stone Ridge Christian only posted an OBP of .211.

Gustine's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 17-5. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games. As for Golden Sierra, their record now sits at 10-6.
