Ann Sobrato is a perfect 3-0 against North Monterey County since February of 2016 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Ann Sobrato Bulldogs will be playing in front of their home fans against the North Monterey County Condors at 4:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
North Monterey County will be up against a hot Ann Sobrato team: the squad just extended their winning streak to four. Ann Sobrato was the clear victors by a 13-1 margin over Hill on Thursday. With that victory, the Bulldogs brought their scoring average up to 6.9 runs per game.
Ann Sobrato got a great performance from JJ Pina as he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out eight over five innings pitched.
On the hitting side, Vince Pomo was a standout: he scored two runs and stole Two bases. while going 2-for-4. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April of 2024. Liam Bettencourt was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing Two bases. while going 2-for-3.
Meanwhile, North Monterey County got themselves on the board against Marina on Wednesday, but Marina never followed suit. They put the hurt on the Mariners with a sharp 14-0 win. With that victory, the Condors brought their scoring average up to 6.8 runs per game.
Leo Cruz and Tyler Bladwin made a big impact no matter where they played. On the mound, Cruz pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Bladwin kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out ten over four innings pitched. Cruz has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances. At the plate, Cruz scored a run while going 1-for-3, while Bladwin scored two runs and stole Three bases. Bladwin has become a key player for North Monterey County: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 2-4 otherwise.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Julian Barajas, who scored three runs and stole Four bases. while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. Another player making a difference was JT Islas, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.
North Monterey County always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .529. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Ann Sobrato pushed their record up to 5-2 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.7 runs on average over those games. As for North Monterey County, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 5-4 record this season.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Monday as neither team is afraid to steal. Ann Sobrato has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.9 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like North Monterey County struggles in that department as they've been averaging 2.9 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Everything went Ann Sobrato's way against North Monterey County in their previous meeting back in March of 2020, as Ann Sobrato made off with a 10-0 victory. Will Ann Sobrato repeat their success, or does North Monterey County have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
