Football Game Preview: Florida Christian Patriots vs. Westminster Academy Lions

The Florida Christian Patriots will head out to face off against the Westminster Academy Lions at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Florida Christian will be looking to extend their current five-game winning streak.

While Florida Christian's victory against ABF Academy wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Patriots had just enough and edged out the Cowboys 29-26.

It was another big night for Cordell Gibson, who rushed for 102 yards and three touchdowns on only 14 carries. Those three rushing touchdowns gave him a new career-high. Speaking of playmakers, who could forget Evan Flowers, who went all the way with a kickoff return for a touchdown.

Florida Christian's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB five times. Osmanny Montano was particularly dangerous to the passing game, picking up two sacks himself.

Meanwhile, Westminster Academy didn't have too much trouble with Indian Rocks Christian on Friday as they won 21-7.

Westminster Academy's win came from a few key players Florida Christian will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Cortland Brownfield, who threw for 376 yards and a pair of TDs while completing 78.8% of his passes, and also rushed for 38 yards. Robert Donald also helped out as he racked up 138 receiving yards.

Florida Christian's record is now 6-1-1. As for Westminster Academy, their record now sits at 6-1.

The upcoming game will be a clash of competing strengths. Florida Christian has deployed a run-first offense that has averaged 153.1 rushing yards a game. Meanwhile, Westminster Academy has preferred to attack from the air: they average 292 passing yards per game. So which strategy will prevail on Friday? There's only one way to find out.
